The Comedy Man (Gray Film 1964, Kenneth More, Cecil Parker)

The Comedy Man (Gray Film 1964, Kenneth More, Cecil Parker)

The Comedy Man – Kenneth More’s undeniable talent was underrated, probably because he always seemed to be enjoying himself so much. He made this modest-budget social drama when he was out in the cold thanks to John Davis of Rank (for which he had made so much money), and despite giving a memorable performance he didn’t make another movie for years. He plays (from the heart!) an out-of-work actor who suddenly strikes gold in a commercial. But while he bounces back financially, his emotional world disintegrates further. More heads a truly memorable cast in this dark gem from Britain’s most mature decade of film-making.
