After a few minor films, Ralph Thomas joined forces with Betty Box (producer Sydney Box’s sister) to make entertaining though tame psychological mystery thriller The Clouded Yellow. Ex-secret serviceman Trevor Howard takes a job as a cataloguer of butterflies, hence the rather cryptic title, and becomes involved with Jean Simmons, a strange fragile young girl accused of murder. In a sub-Hitchcockian man-on-the-run manner, they are pursued across Britain by Scotland Yard man Kenneth More.
