Hot Shots! | 1991 | Charlie Sheen, Cary Elwes

In the same vein as Airplane! and the Naked Gun series, Jim Abrahams’ comedy is an affectionate parody of Top Gun and An Officer and a Gentleman , with pastiches from, among other titles, 9½ Weeks , Gone with the Wind and The Fabulous Baker Boys . Charlie Sheen plays Lt Topper Hadley, ace of flying aces, needed to wipe out a nuclear installation in a hostile counrty. He finds himself in conflict with Lt Kent Greogry (Cary Elwes) in the air and on the ground for the love of psychiatrist Ramada Thompson, while more comic relief comes from Lloyd Bridges as Thomas ‘Tug’ Benson, the dimwitted admiral in charge of them all.
